documentedsource_actorFortean / Mothman / MIB

American journalist/ufologist (1930–2009) who investigated and mythologized the Point Pleasant flap; coined-popularized 'ultraterrestrials' and the modern MIB image.

Born Alva John Kiehle. Early travel writer (Jadoo, on the Yeti/snake-charmers). Investigated Point Pleasant alongside reporter Mary Hyre; claimed thousands of witness interviews across 20 states. Author of The Mothman Prophecies (1975), Operation Trojan Horse (1970), The Eighth Tower (1975), Strange Creatures from Time and Space (1970). Abandoned the extraterrestrial hypothesis by ~1967 in favor of ultraterrestrials. Accuracy questioned by John C. Sherwood (Skeptical Inquirer 2002) via Keel–Barker letters; folklorist David Clarke called his fact/fiction line 'a very fine one.'.
