First widely-reported sighting 15 Nov 1966 (Scarberry/Mallette couples near the WWII 'TNT area' / McClintic Wildlife Mgmt Area); an earlier 12 Nov 1966 Clendenin gravedigger report exists. ~100 witnesses through Dec 1967 described a ~7ft winged figure with glowing red eyes that pursued cars, plus odd lights, phone anomalies, and 'men in black' visits. Name coined by a newspaper subeditor after the then-airing Batman TV series. Sightings ceased after the Silver Bridge collapse. Now a tourism economy (museum, statue, annual September festival).
