Nurrungar was a joint U.S.-Australian satellite ground station near Woomera, South Australia, operational from 1971 until its closure in 1999. It relayed data from U.S. early-warning (Defense Support Program) satellites that detect missile launches. A genuine, now-decommissioned defense facility, its Cold-War secrecy placed it alongside Pine Gap in Australian secret-base and UFO lore.
