Fontes, a Rio de Janeiro medical professor, examined Villas-Boas on 22 February 1958, recording hours of testimony and documenting nausea, skin lesions and blood anomalies he interpreted as mild radiation sickness. He found no sign of psychological fabrication and believed the account, though his report was deemed too sensational to publish at the time by APRO and O Cruzeiro.
