Pasco Naval Air Station was a US Navy airfield in southeastern Washington, about 60 miles northwest of the Hanford plutonium-production site. During 1944-45 it was tasked by Fourth Air Force headquarters to use radar and fighters to intercept unidentified objects intruding over Hanford. It represents the earliest documented air-defense response to overflights of a Manhattan Project nuclear facility.
