In early 1952, Project Blue Book director Capt. Edward Ruppelt visited Los Alamos and interviewed scientists about local sightings. He recorded that UFOs were 'habitually reported' near atomic-energy installations — an early, semi-official observation of the nuclear/UFO correlation from inside the Air Force's own investigation. Ruppelt is also credited with coining the term 'UFO.'.
