Utsuro-bune ("hollow ship") is an Edo-period Japanese legend recorded in texts such as Toen Shōsetsu (c. 1825), describing a sealed, round, window-bearing vessel that washed ashore on the Hitachi coast in 1803 carrying a foreign-looking woman. Modern ancient-astronaut and UFO writers cite it as an early 'flying saucer / occupant' account. It is genuine period folklore; the extraterrestrial reading is a modern reinterpretation.
