Long-running UK civilian UFO investigation body. Roots in the 1959 London UFO Research Organization (LUFORO); a loose federation formed in 1962 and was renamed the British UFO Research Association in 1964; legally constituted as a non-profit company in 1975. Runs field investigators, a training course (since the 1970s), a journal and an annual Sheffield Hallam conference (since 1987).
Documented, real organisation describing itself as non-cultist and scientific. Notably sceptical — investigates ~400 cases a year and reports roughly 95% as hoaxes or misidentifications. Jenny Randles, a BUFORA investigator, later founded the Northern UFO Network. Peak membership ~1,000 (1997).
