The Colares 'chupa-chupa' wave occurred in 1977 on the island of Colares in Para, Brazil, where residents reported beams of light from aerial objects that left burns and produced anemia-like blood-loss symptoms ('chupa-chupa' meaning 'sucker'). It prompted the Brazilian Air Force's Operacao Prato investigation.
