Retired Marine major and journalist (1897-1988) who led NICAP from 1957; author of the foundational mass-market UFO books arguing for extraterrestrial origin and an Air Force/CIA cover-up.
Wrote 'The Flying Saucers Are Real' (1950), 'Flying Saucers from Outer Space' (1953), 'The Flying Saucer Conspiracy' (1955) and 'Aliens from Space' (1973). As NICAP director he pushed a Congressional-hearings strategy and accused first the Air Force then the CIA of suppressing evidence. Forced to retire from NICAP by Dec 1969. His authorship and NICAP leadership are DOCUMENTED; his ET-origin and 'Cosmic Watergate'-style cover-up conclusions are CLAIM. He sits at the head of the modern UFO authorship lineage.
