Dulce Base is an alleged secret seven-level underground joint human-alien laboratory said to lie beneath Archuleta Mesa near Dulce, New Mexico, where 'genetic experiments' and a 1979 'Dulce Wars' firefight supposedly occurred. The legend emerged in the late 1970s-80s, largely seeded by businessman Paul Bennewitz, who misread signals from nearby Kirtland AFB as alien communications. It matters as a cornerstone of underground-base UFO mythology, but a key propagator (Thomas Castello) left no verifiable evidence and the story is widely regarded as fabricated folklore. No physical or documentary proof of any such facility exists.
