Acorn-shaped object with hieroglyph-like markings reportedly recovered under Army guard at Kecksburg, PA, after a 9 Dec 1965 fireball.

After a widely seen fireball on 9 December 1965, Kecksburg witnesses and volunteer firefighters reported an acorn-shaped object the size of a VW Beetle bearing band-of-symbols markings, an Army-secured site, and removal by flatbed truck. Prosaic candidates include a bolide meteor and Soviet probe Kosmos 96, but NASA's own astronomical analysis and USAF tracking contradict the Kosmos 96 timing/trajectory. NASA's lost-records admission and Leslie Kean's FOIA lawsuit kept the case open without resolution.
