Triggered by an AFOSI referral in September 1988, the FBI's Dallas office investigated whether the leaked MJ-12 document was classified. AFOSI reported on 30 November 1988 that no such committee had ever been authorized, and the FBI declared the document 'completely bogus.' Copies survive stamped 'BOGUS' on every page. The file's lack of any forger hunt later fueled the disinformation theory.
