Oak Ridge 1950 Skeptical / Conventional Explanations.

Cold-War hypervigilance, radar ducting, misID of balloons/aircraft/stars, and at least one admitted foil-RAWIN hoax.
Prosaic mechanisms plausibly explain parts of the flap: newly-installed radar plus fighter-defended, threat-primed posture amid the 1947-52 UFO panic; misidentified balloons, aircraft and astronomical objects (the Jan 1951 closer was stars); a 1947 photo set ruled a hoax. At least one later incident used foil strips to spoof radar. But multi-agency investigators rejected blanket prosaic explanations for the strongest Oct 1950 cases, so fit varies by incident.
