Between October 1950 and 1952 Oak Ridge experienced an exceptional cluster of unexplained aerial events over its restricted AEC airspace: 11+ unidentified radar targets (Oct 12), the Rymer–Moneymaker low-altitude close encounter (Oct 15, Blue Book Unidentified #819), repeated daylight visuals over the K-25 and X-10 areas, radar scopes 'blanketed' with targets over the AEC projects (Dec 14/20), a one-hour national-emergency condition with CIC on Immediate High Alert (Dec 6), and continued cases into 1951–52 (BBU 829, 1021; the June 1952 'ramming attacks'). Several events paired with anomalous Geiger-counter alpha/beta/gamma spikes 'not attributable to a known source.' F-82 and F-47 fighters repeatedly scrambled but consistently failed to get visual contact despite radar confirmation. CIC vetted witnesses via employment and FBI records, finding them reliable; the FBI (Hoover directive Oct 13) tracked the matter.
