Oak Ridge October 1950 Overflights.
documentedclose_encounterAtomic Energy Commission / ERDA (DOE progenitors)
Oct-Dec 1950 cluster of radar-visual UFO events over the restricted Oak Ridge atomic complex, with repeated F-82 scrambles.
Beginning 12 Oct 1950 the CPS-1 radar at McGhee Tyson tracked 11+ objects entering the Oak Ridge control zone. Over the following weeks AESS troopers, security officers and airport witnesses reported objects, several correlated with radar and intercept attempts. AFOSI, CIC, FBI and AEC security all generated documentation. Most were later attributed to radar angels/inversions, but a few stayed officially unexplained.
