USAF CPS-1 radar station at McGhee Tyson Airport that detected the Oct 1950 Oak Ridge targets; passed operational checks during the event.
At 2325 EST on 12 Oct 1950 the CPS-1 painted eleven-plus objects entering the north edge of the Oak Ridge controlled area moving south. The station was verified in good operating condition during and after the sightings, undercutting a simple-malfunction explanation. It triggered the F-82 scrambles and is named in AFOSI Cmdr. William Price's 14 Oct 1950 memo. A separate ~3-week-old Knoxville radar logged the March 1950 contacts.
