The A-12 OXCART was a CIA Mach-3 reconnaissance aircraft (predecessor of the SR-71) flight-tested at Groom Lake/Area 51 in the 1960s. Its radical disk-like planform, titanium skin and high-altitude dusk flights generated numerous civilian UFO reports, and the CIA later acknowledged that Project Blue Book used OXCART (and U-2) flight logs to explain away many sightings. It is a documented prosaic source for a meaningful fraction of Cold War UFO cases.
