First systematic SETI radio search: Frank Drake monitored Tau Ceti and Epsilon Eridani near 1420 MHz at Green Bank, Apr–Jul 1960.
Named after the queen of Oz, Project Ozma used the NRAO 26-m dish in Green Bank, WV, to scan two nearby Sun-like stars near the 21 cm hydrogen line for six hours a day from April to July 1960. It found no signals but established the template for radio SETI and led directly to the 1961 Green Bank conference. Drake revived it as Project Ozma II at Arecibo in 1974.
