The practice of treating legacy civilian report archives (NUFORC, MUFON) and structured platforms as datasets to clean, geocode, and data-mine, rather than as anecdote collections.
A methodological shift endorsed in part by NASA's 2023 UAP study (citizen science + open data): legacy archives become datasets for lexical/shape/behavior taxonomy mining, geocoding, and ML scoring. Third-party pipelines standardize and geocode NUFORC data; structured platforms like Enigma score reports. The constraints are well documented: self-selection bias, inconsistent metadata, duplication, scraping/ToS limits, and uneven investigator training (MUFON). Documented that the datasets exist and are mined; the inference that mining isolates a genuine non-mundane signal remains a claim.
