An anonymous letter later circulated to APRO ('the Weitzel letter') dressed up his report with dramatic close-encounter details (a landed craft, an alien entity) that Weitzel did not actually claim. The case illustrates how a routine sighting was embellished into disinformation; researcher Brad Sparks attributed the letter's authorship to Doty.
