On 16 Mar 1967, all ten Minuteman I ICBMs of Echo Flight at Malmstrom AFB lost strategic alert nearly simultaneously (within ~10 seconds), displaying No-Go indications. USAF/Boeing/Autonetics engineering investigation attributed the cause to an electronic-noise pulse entering the logic coupler and the contemporaneous record stated 'Rumors of UFOs...were disproven.' The UFO dimension emerged later: deputy commander Walter Figel told Robert Hastings he received a guard's radio report of 'a large, round object' over a silo, and Boeing engineer Robert Kaminski reportedly found no failure mechanism. A 2025 press account tied certain Cold War missile anomalies to classified EMP testing, an explanation that is itself disputed.
