Elizabeth Loftus (b.1944) established that memory is malleable via the misinformation effect and the 'lost in the mall' implanted-memory paradigm, and became a leading critic of recovered-memory therapy. She has testified in hundreds of cases. On NOVA's Kidnapped by UFOs? (1997) she identified Hopkins's 'subtle but powerful suggestive cues,' and appeared with Klass at CSICOP debating Mack. Her book The Myth of Repressed Memory (1994, with Ketcham) frames the critique.
