Real-time micro-cassette recording made by Lt Col Halt during the second-night forest investigation; the most-analysed primary artifact of the case.
Halt switched a hand-held Lanier recorder on and off while leading a team into the forest. The tape captures contemporaneous bearings and descriptions ('about 110 degrees', flashing every five seconds, 'like an eye winking at you'). Skeptics use these timings to argue the light was the Orford Ness lighthouse; proponents cite the same tape as evidence of a genuine maneuvering object. Either way it is rare contemporaneous audio evidence.
