These are DOE's institutional ancestors: the Atomic Energy Commission (created 1946 by P.L. 79-585), reorganized into ERDA in 1974, then folded into DOE in 1977. The AEC ran the early US atomic program and was consulted during the late-1940s 'green fireball' scares over New Mexico nuclear sites. Both the AEC and the Manhattan Project are named in the text of the 2023 UAP Disclosure Act as record-holders. The lineage matters because it explains why nuclear-weapons secrecy authority and any early anomalous-phenomena files trace back through these bodies to today's DOE.
