Two camp counselors at Lake Champlain reported a splitting light and ~1 hour missing time on 7 Aug 1968; an early multi-witness case investigated for five years by astronomer Walter Webb.
On 7 August 1968 counselors Michael Lapp (16) and Janet Cornell (19) reported a light dividing into three over Lake Champlain, then missing time. Lapp contacted CUFOS/Walter Webb in 1978. Webb regressed the two separately, obtaining convergent narratives, and found additional staff who saw lights that night. He concluded they had no opportunity for collusion and experienced a real external event of unknown origin (Encounter at Buff Ledge). Skeptics cite hypnosis false-memory risk and possible shared hallucination or sleep paralysis.
