Artist-turned-ufologist; Missing Time (1981) & Intruders (1987) founded the missing-time/implant/hybrid abduction framework.

Budd Hopkins (1931-2011) was an abstract-expressionist painter who became the field's most influential abduction investigator after a 1964 sighting. Missing Time (1981) was the first study to look for consistent patterns across unrelated witnesses; Intruders (1987) introduced the intergenerational genetic/hybrid thesis plus 'scoop marks' and implants. He founded the Intruders Foundation (1989) and mentored Jacobs and Mack. Critics, including ex-wife Carol Rainey and Elizabeth Loftus, faulted his suggestive hypnosis and the perennial absence of tangible proof.
