GEIPAN is France's current official UAP study unit, housed within the national space agency CNES in Toulouse, and the successor to GEPAN and SEPRA. It collects French UAP reports (largely via the Gendarmerie), investigates them scientifically, and publishes case files publicly. It matters as one of the world's longest-running and most transparent government UAP programs; it classifies most cases as identified and leaves a residual fraction unexplained without claiming extraterrestrial causes.
